Sound of Hockey
Maybe it’s just because I got my hearing back, but tonight I was first on the ice and heard something I rarely hear. 20 minutes before game time I skated out on the smoothest surface I’ve yet to experience. It was awesome. The only sounds were the sound of my skates, stick and puck. There is no experience like warming up alone like this. You, ice and puck. The sounds were awesome. The ‘whack’ of the stick and puck connecting as I would shoot. The ’shwooosshhhhhhhtttt’ as I cut and turned with my skates. The sounds of hockey. I would skate with the puck from end to end and shoot against the boards and sometimes lift it to the glass for that other special ‘cracking’ sound.
I guess you have to go experience a hockey game to know the sounds I’m writing about, but once you do…you’ll know what I mean. People like me love every aspect of the game. Even the sound.
